Range backpacks? This is a truly excellent carrier, and this is the second year the LILLEBaby carrier was tested for inclusion in our list, and it made it right into the first place position again! The LILLE Baby series is relatively new to the baby carrier market, using beautiful and highly functional Scandinavian styling, and including some very comprehensive features. They make three categories of carriers: the LilleBaby’s COMPLETE series, CARRY-ON series, and ESSENTIALS series. As the name would suggest, the COMPLETE series is the most versatile, with six carry positions, a wide weight range that includes infants down to 7 pounds, and big kids up to 45 pounds. Within the COMPLETE series, they have the All Seasons, the Airflow, the Original, and the Embossed Luxe version. Unless you live in (and never travel outside of) Arizona, southern California, or Florida, which might lead you to purchase the Airflow version, we highly recommend the All Seasons.
If you have a favorite pair of non-cotton athletic tights or yoga pants, they can work as either your base layer or your hiking pants. Worn as pants they won’t offer you handy stash pockets and they’ll be more susceptible to brush snags and rock abrasion than regular hiking pants. Because your feet are crucial to a successful trip, footwear is your most important item. Some backpackers insist on supportive over-the-ankle boots, while others prefer lightweight trail running shoes. To learn more, read Hiking Boots vs. Trail Runners: The Great Debate. Your boots or shoes should be well broken-in before you go. Wear wool or synthetic socks, and consider bringing an ultralight pair of shoes or water sandals for wearing around camp (and for fording creeks). You can also learn the primitive skill of creating a fire with a bow-drill. It’s empowering to know that you can start a fire with some raw materials. Just make sure you keep the fire under control. People trying to signal a rescue with fire have started forest fires that burned thousands of acres. Repair Kit and Tools: If you need to build a shelter, find food, etc., you’ll need some tools. I look at this hiking essential as a general pool of things that I might need to solve a variety of problems, not just repair something. Duct tape or Tenacious Tape to repair gear, Knife and multi-tool, Utility cord to rig up a shelter or trap, tent footprint which you can use to haul wood and other materials.
Reducing backpack weight advice : Ultralight tent footprint/ groundcloth. Footprints and ground cloths act as a protective barrier in between the ground and the floor of your tent. They also prevent any water from seeping in from the ground through your tent floor. Use a painters tarp instead of buying the manufacturer’s footprint. You can find painter’s tarp at any hardware store. 2-3 mm thick is perfect. Cut it out to match the outline of your tent floor… and then cut off an inch border to make it slightly smaller than your tent floor. Trekking poles, not tent poles. Two trekking poles (plus your guylines) is all you need to keep your tarp supported. Many tarp systems only require one pole. See ultralight trekking poles. Find additional information at here.
