All of our adult chihuahuas are in the 4-5 pound range and so our puppies are genetically very small as well. Some people refer to these teeny tiny chihuahuas as “teacup chihuahuas”, however this is just a term used to describe an ultra tiny chihuahua. Not only are our chihuahua puppies ultra tiny, they have exceptional conformation in accordance with the chihuahua breed standard and wonderful, sweet temperaments. I have spent my entire life caring for animals, but mainly chihuahuas.

While everyone is staying indoors during the coronavirus pandemic to flatten the curve, our pets are also being forced to do the same. Self-isolating can be as difficult and stressful for pets as it is for their owners. The change in their routine—no more daily walks and visits from regular guests—can contribute to stress and boredom. So, here are some tips for pet care during the lockdown.

Dogs use their ears in everyday life. Even if it can live very well if it is deaf! We know that hearing is important, since the dog vocalizes a lot. This is a characteristic that it retained during its evolution. It also vocalizes a lot with humans, which facilitates social interactions between our two species. The dog is the only specie of canine to vocalize frequently. Even if the dog understands better the indications by gestures / signals, it is enough to be the owner of a dog to notice that it will be sensitive to the tone you used The intonation therefore plays a more important role than the word itself.

Teach your puppy basic commands at a young age and he will grow to be a well-behaved dog. It takes a bit of time and patience, but it’s not something you’d want to put off for later. Use positive reinforcement as part of your dog training techniques and never punish your dog. Set aside a few minutes a day to play with your dog. Use play times for training as well as to strengthen your bond with your pet. Understand that dogs are very social creatures and they would certainly look forward to spending quality time with you. Toilet training is an important part in your dog’s development. Take him outside after feeding him at the same time every day to finish his business.

Each breeding is carefully planned with the right sire and dam that we feel will produce the best quality puppies (both temperament and looks). I raise my chihuahuas indoors and they are potty pad trained from the time they are weaned at 5 weeks until they go to their new homes. The babies are held and loved on a daily basis from the moment that they are born (as well as in their mamas tummies!). Socialization is so important early on and makes a life long difference in the overall temperament of the dog. Read additional details on https://www.chihuahuadreams.com/.
